
The storm Claudia This morning, heavy rainfall has left the south of the province of Ávila and the north of Cáceres, which have been under a red warning for rain until six in the morning. The rains, which have reached close to 150 liters in some locations, have caused overflows in the Barco de Ávila and Muñomoral, although the damage remains to be quantified. The governments of Extremadura and Castilla y León have even sent alerts to mobile phones so that citizens can exercise extreme caution and avoid unnecessary travel.

The Tormes River has overflowed as it passes through El Barco de Ávila, where its mayor, Pilar Araoz, has told RNE that “the entire riverbed was covered.” At this time, the rains have lost intensity and the warning has been lowered to yellow, while the flow of the stream decreases. Around 11:30 p.m. on Thursday, residents of the Central System area and the south of the province of Ávila received an ES Alert message informing them of the red weather warning and urging them to avoid travel. The Durero Automatic Information System reported around 7:00 that the situation was complicated in Puente del Congosto (Salamanca), due to the flooding of the Tormes, which at that time was transporting 929 cubic meters per second, although the trend was no longer increasing.
The Civil Protection and Emergency Agency has sent a message through the ES-ALERT system to the southern area of to warn of the forecast of heavy rains in the coming hours.

There has also been an overflow of the Hurdano River in Muñomoral, in the north of Cáceres, where residents have also received an ES Alert message. In the municipality of Tornavacas, 147 liters per square meter have been collected during the night, and 120 in Piornal. The Extremadura Government has activated the flood plan and a Cecopi has been established to follow the evolution of the rains during the night.
The DGT has reported the closure of several roads due to the rains in both provinces. In Ávila, the regional AV-P-536 and AV-P-537 in Barco de Ávila were closed after 6:00, while in Cáceres the CC-224 in Hervás is closed. The storm has also forced the closure of three roads in Gran Canaria (the GC-60 in San Bartolomé de Tirajana, the GC-200 in Candelaria and El Risco and the GC-605 in La Culata).
