Portugal recorded a significant increase in the average net salary, but no group grew as much as the military. According to the newspaper Correio da Manhã, the Armed Forces led the salary increase in the third quarter, approaching 2,000 euros per month, at the same time that the average income of employees reached 1,298 euros after an increase of 8.71%.
According to the same source, the net income of military personnel rose significantly following recent measures to enhance careers. The average increase in this category was 22.69%, raising the average clean salary from 1,622 euros to 1,990 euros. The newspaper writes that this variation exceeded, by a large margin, the evolution of the other professions analyzed.
This significant growth contrasts with the progression recorded in the national average. The publication adds that the remaining employees saw their salaries increase by 104 euros compared to the previous year, in a context of greater dynamism in the labor market.
Pace of rise and impact of inflation
It should be noted that the pace of salary increases this quarter exceeded that observed in previous months. In the immediately preceding period, growth had been 7.3%.
At the same time, the effect of inflation did not cancel out the real gains: discounting price changes, the effective net increase was 8.5%, equivalent to 101.50 euros. The newspaper explains that the relief from the inflation rate helped to reinforce purchasing power, despite the differences between professions.
Among the remaining categories, intermediate technicians recorded more moderate growth. Administrative employees had an increase of 11.67% in their monthly salary, resulting in a total of 1,387 euros. Workers linked to scientific and intellectual activities saw an increase lower than the national average, which contrasted with the performance of the Armed Forces.
Differences between professions and absolute values
Top managers continue to present the largest nominal differences. Write that this group receives 1,236 euros more than unskilled workers, placing the average salary at 3,683 euros.
The income of professionals with low levels of qualification remained well below this value, despite the positive global evolution.
The average net salary in Portugal rose to 1,298 euros. The set of data shows that the increase in income is unevenly distributed between sectors, but confirms that the military stood out with the greatest variation, approaching 2,000 euros per month after discounts.
