Ukraine "successfully" launched new Long Neptune missile against "specific targets in Russia". It has a range of 1000 kilometers

New missile was presented earlier this year and has the capacity to hit targets up to a thousand kilometers away

Last night, Ukraine “successfully” launched the new Long Neptune cruise missiles “against specific targets on Russian territory”, announced Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

“During the night, our warriors successfully used the Long Neptunes against specific targets on Russian territory – and this is our completely fair response to Russia’s continued terror,” wrote Volodymyr Zelensky, in a post on the social network X.

The Ukrainian president published a video of the launch of one of these missiles, adding that the Ukrainian defense industry is “producing more”. “Ukrainian missiles are producing increasingly significant and precise results,” he added, without ever saying what specific targets these were.

In practice, the Long Neptune is an updated version of the original R-360 Neptune missile, an anti-ship missile with a range of 300 kilometers, which gained prominence in April 2022, one of the most important in the Russian Navy.

The new version of the Neptune, the Long Neptune, presented earlier this year, has the capacity to hit targets on the ground up to a thousand kilometers away, according to the Ukrainian press. In March, Volodymyr Zelensky announced that tests of the new missile had been successfully completed.

The Long Neptune was retrofitted with a new guidance system, a satellite positioning system to control the course of the flight.

This appears to be the solution found by Ukraine to make up for the absence of the desired Tomahawks, the long-range US cruise missiles that Donald Trump refuses to send to Kiev.
