US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth announced on Thursday (13) a US military operation that, according to him, would target “narco-terrorists” in the Western Hemisphere.
“Today, I’m announcing Operation SOUTH SPEAR. Led by Joint Task Force South Spear and @SOUTHCOM, this mission defends our homeland, removes narco-terrorists from our hemisphere, and protects our homeland from the drugs that are killing our people,” Hegseth said in an X post.
U.S. Southern Command (SOUTHCOM) is the combatant command of the U.S. Armed Forces that encompasses 31 countries in South and Central America and the Caribbean.
