Amid the discussion about Bolsonaro’s succession, Flávio posts a photo with Tarcísio

Amid discussions about the Bolsonaro candidacy to face the PT in 2026, senator Flávio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ) published a photo with the governor of São Paulo, Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans), to defend unity on the right.

The two are tipped to inherit the place of former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL), who is sentenced to 27 years in prison for an attempted coup d’état and is about to go to prison.

“Tarcisio and I, in RJ and SP, will be together and with Jair Bolsonaro in any scenario. My only certainty is that Lula will no longer be president of Brazil from 2027!”, wrote Flávio, without detailing which positions the two will run for.

Elected to the Senate in 2018, Flávio will need to defend his candidacy in 2026 if he wants to remain in the Senate. If he runs for President of the Republic and loses, he will be without a mandate.

Tarcísio, elected in 2022 to the Palácio dos Bandeirantes, faces the same dilemma. The easiest path is to seek re-election as governor, since he has good popularity in polls and there is no competitive candidate against him on the horizon.

Bolsonaro’s allies have been divided between supporting Flávio or Tarcísio for the post. Some believe that the senator comes out ahead because he carries his father’s surname and is more immune to friendly fire from his family, especially from his brothers Eduardo and Carlos.

Tarcísio is seen as a more palatable name for the center, due to his relationship with the country’s economic center, Faria Lima, in addition to his experience as a manager.
