On the eve of facing the first friendly scheduled for this year, the coach stated, in a press conference held this Friday, in , that the path to winning the title goes through defense.

In the conversation with journalists, he drew a parallel with the scheme used by then coach Carlos Alberto Parreira in the tetra campaign, in 94, in the . In his speech, an organized defense will be essential to achieve the objective of the title in the 2026 World Cup, which will be held in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

“The story of the team’s penultimate World Cup victory was focused on defense. I didn’t really like the game, but I remember that in 1994 the team was very solid: two lines of four and Romário and Bebeto up front. It’s a very important aspect for the next World Cup. A good defense helps quality players make a difference”, said the Italian coach.

The Italian boss’s speech comes after Brazil’s comeback defeat to Japan, which provoked reflections in the coach. After opening up a two-goal lead, the national team was surprised by their rivals in the second half and ended up defeated 3-2.

Ancelotti leads the team for the seventh time this Saturday, at 1pm (Brasília time) against the Senegal team. Regarding the scheme to be used, he said that he will maintain the same game strategy used against Korea (in a match that the national team won 5-0).

“What I can say is that we will maintain the same system as in the game against Korea. Every time the team played with two pivots, things went well. It is the best system in my opinion, with very strong players up front, but we will not rule out a more solid scheme at the back”, he declared.

Ancelotti was also asked about the definitive list for the World Cup. With just over six months left until next year, he stated that many things could happen between now and the final call.

“There are some positions left (to define the chosen ones) and the competition between the candidates is great. The technical committee will have to watch until the last day with doubts. The quality of the Brazilian player is very high. But the idea I have of the final call-up is very clear”, he commented.
