The driver of the vehicle was detained and a manslaughter investigation was opened as standard procedure.
At least three people died and three were injured this Friday (14), when a bus ran over a group waiting at a stop in the center of the capital, police announced. “Three people died in the incident and the identification process is being carried out. Three injured people were taken to hospital, two of them by ambulance and one by other means”, the armed body wrote in a statement.
Several police vehicles were sent to the scene of the incident, along with ambulances and rescue teams, according to images published in local media. Police spokeswoman Nadya Norton previously told AFP that the cause of the accident was still unknown. “The investigation will have to determine what happened. It’s too early to say and I don’t want to speculate,” he said.
The bus driver, he added, had been detained and that a manslaughter investigation had been opened as standard procedure. “We need to question him, then we will see if he will be released or kept in custody,” Norton said.
Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson published a message aimed at the victims and their families. “I received the tragic news that several people died and were injured at a bus stop in the center of Stockholm,” the prime minister wrote on the social network
