The National Institute of Meteorology issued a “great danger” warning for the three states in the southern region and the south of Mato Grosso do Sul. The movement of a cold front will cause heavy rain, accompanied by gusts of wind and hail. The most severe storms are expected to occur between Sunday and Monday.

This Friday, the National Civil Defense called a press conference to detail the scenario. According to Inmet meteorologist Marcia Seabra, the movement of the cold front will cause storms that could reach as far as the southeast. In the region, storms could hit the state of São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, southern Minas Gerais and Triângulo Mineiro, where the Institute issued a danger alert.

Inmet meteorologist Marcia Seabra said that the occurrence of tornadoes is not ruled out, however, she considered that the prediction of this type of phenomenon is impossible to be made days in advance and that experts can only specify the formation of a tornado minutes before.

The director of the National Center for Risk and Disaster Management (Cenad), Armin Braun, said that the actions are already being coordinated and that federal agencies are in contact with states and municipalities.

At the weekend, there are still conditions for showers in Mato Grosso and the west of the North region. In the northeast, the rain, in isolation, is concentrated on the coast of Bahia, Sergipe and Alagoas, while in the northeastern interior dry weather predominates, with low relative humidity.
