Are discounts and shrinkflation misleading consumers? For weeks, the SPÖ has been fighting a duel with the food trade in search of those to blame for the inflation. A sharp action by the Vienna Market Office revealed 200 violations relating to the awarding of prizes within a month. This sparked debates about requirements that, from the supermarkets’ point of view, were absurd. Since then, experts have been puzzling over whether the basic price of lemons online should be measured per piece or per kilo.
