Fluminense mourns the death of Celso Barros: “Great tricolor”

Fluminense published a note lamenting the death of Celso Barros, pre-candidate for president of the Laranjeiras club, in the elections taking place in 2026.

At 73 years old, the doctor was president of Unimed-Rio and ended up becoming one of the leaders of the company’s partnership with Tricolor Carioca, from 1999 and 2014.

“Fluminense Football Club expresses its deep regret”, began the statement, published on the club’s social networks this Saturday afternoon (15).

“A character of great importance in the club’s history, Celso played a leading role as president of the sponsor of the team that won titles of national relevance, such as the 2007 Copa do Brasil and the 2010 and 2012 Brazilian Championships, in addition to finishing runner-up in the 2008 Copa Libertadores.”

Fluminense also declared official mourning and made the Salão Nobre de Laranjeiras available for Barros’ wake.

“Always in love, the pediatrician lived intensely the discussion about the club’s fate. (…) Fluminense expresses solidarity in this moment of sadness with his family, his friends and all the tricolors who have admired him for all these years.”

Celso Barros, from the “Flu é dos Tricolores” ticket, intended to compete with Ademar Arrais, Luis Monteagudo and Mattheus Montenegro for the presidency of the Rio club.
