The Minister of Finance, , asked for sensitivity on the part of the Chamber of Deputies to approve proposals aimed at public security, with emphasis on the project which, among other determinations, seeks to inhibit money laundering practices.
“[o projeto de] Anti-faction law, the persistent debtor, the security PEC… Congress has to look into this and approve that we change the level”, he declared this Friday (14).
“After the [operação] Hidden Carbon, the Senate voted unanimously. Therefore, I hope that another event of this size will not be necessary for the Chamber to raise awareness. But I’ve been talking to President Hugo [Motta]I’m sure it will raise awareness. It’s time. It’s past time.”
Operation Hidden Carbon integrated the Federal Police, the São Paulo Public Ministry and the São Paulo PM to dismantle a national money laundering scheme from criminal organizations valued at R$52 billion.
The persistent debtor project, also cited by Haddad, creates the Taxpayer Defense Code and typifies the persistent debtor as one whose fiscal behavior is characterized by substantial, repeated and unjustified tax default.
The demand for the approval of this project gained strength after it exposed organized crime money laundering and financial fraud schemes.
The proposal also considers as default, at the federal level, the existence of tax credits in an irregular situation, registered in active debt or constituted and not paid, in a value equal to or greater than R$ 15 million and equivalent to more than 100% of the debtor’s known assets.
Haddad’s speeches were made to journalists after an Education event attended by the President of the Republic, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT)
