At the same time, the first “anti-war rally” of the ruling Fidesz party took place in this city, with the participation of Prime Minister Viktor Orbán.
The head of the Hungarian non-parliamentary opposition party TISZA, Péter Magyar, spoke for the first time about himself as his party’s candidate for the post of Prime Minister at a mass meeting in Győr, Northern Hungary on Saturday. At the same time, the first “anti-war rally” of the ruling Fidesz party took place in this city, with the participation of Prime Minister Viktor Orbán. With reference to the server szeretlekmagyarország.hu, the correspondent of TASR in Budapest informs about it.
The public event of the TISZA party was held at the Vienna Gate Square (Bécsi kapu tér). Cameras were installed in the square. According to the telex.hu server, the police have not yet commented on the question of their purpose on Saturday.
“I feel the burden of my enormous responsibility. I know what the role of a real prime minister is. I know what his responsibility is to his country and to every Hungarian,” said the chairman of the TISZA party.
Magyar added that he was ready for the task and promised that after the TISZA party is entrusted by millions of Hungarians to govern in parliamentary elections in 148 days, he will work 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to defend the interests of every Hungarian at home and around the world.
“We don’t hide behind cordons like Fidesz and we don’t go on stage in front of a pre-arranged audience,” Magyar said in reference to a nearby mass rally of the ruling party. “Who are you afraid of, Prime Minister? Starving children living in extreme poverty?” the opposition leader asked the question and named several social groups that, in his opinion, cannot be satisfied with their current situation.
In his speech held in the cordoned off and heavily guarded area of the Olympic Sports Park in front of pre-registered participants, Orbán said that the Trianon Peace Treaty had created an “unviable Hungary” and that, according to him, it was necessary to build a “financial protective shield”. He also called for an end to the war in Ukraine by creating a new European security system.
