The tornado hit a campsite and a resort in the Algarve. It caused one death and at least 28 injuries. The fatal victim is an 85-year-old woman.
IPMA confirms that the that, this Saturday, at a campsite in Albufeira, in the Algarve, it was a tornado. The episode also affected a resort. In addition to the fatal victim, it caused 28 injuries and caused damage.
In an interview with SIC Notícias, Paula Leitão, IPMA meteorologist explains that the clouds “descended to the surface in a whirlwind, with huge objects projected”, signs that it was a tornado.

The fatal victim in the episode is an 85-year-old British woman. She was found buried, already in cardiorespiratory arrest, at a campsite in Albufeira.
It is the third death caused by the effects of Cláudia’s depression. The first two were a man and a woman. The couple died in a flooded house in Fernão Ferro, Seixal.

The tornado also hit a resort in the Algarve. In total, at the campsite and the resort there were 28 injured, aged between 6 and 85 years.

Bruno Gonçalves, environmental engineer, witnessed the phenomenonon Ferragudo beach.
“I noticed a very active cell entering the area where I was, there was a lot of rain, but as soon as a little bit passed I realized there was something more”, he says
The environmental engineer only had time to reposition the car “to receive perpendicular winds” to “not run the risk” of the vehicle turning over. He was unable to measure the wind gusts, but believes they were greater than 150 km/hour.
