The mega-operation carried out at the end of October in the Penha and Alemão complexes continues to receive majority support from the population, according to an Ipsos-Ipec survey released this Friday (14). The survey shows that 69% of Brazilians approve of the action, which .
Among Jair Bolsonaro’s (PL) voters in the 2022 second round, support is almost unanimous: 83% evaluate the operation positively, while 10% disapprove and 4% say they neither approve nor disapprove. Another 3% were unable to answer. The selection considers 743 interviews, with a margin of error of 4 percentage points.
In the group that voted for Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), the majority also approved the operation — 61%, against 30% who disapproved. Three percent had no opinion and 6% were unable to respond. In this sample, of 812 voters, the margin of error is 3 percentage points.

The assessment of the Rio government’s decision to authorize the action follows the same pattern: 67% of those interviewed say it was right, while 24% classify it as wrong.
Impact of the operation
The survey also asked respondents about the effect of the mega-operation on combating crime in the long term:
• 58% believe that the action will help reduce crime in Rio;
• 37% think there will be no impact;
• 5% did not know how to answer.
The use of police force, considered one of the most controversial points of the operation, received a mostly favorable assessment:
• 55% say it was adequate;
• 27% consider it exaggerated;
• 12% consider it insufficient;
• 7% did not respond.
The operation — considered the most lethal in the state’s history — aimed to execute around 100 arrest warrants against Comando Vermelho leaders, including 30 from outside Rio. In total, 118 weapons were seized, 91 of which were rifles.
The state government initially announced that 113 people were arrested. Documents sent to Minister Alexandre de Moraes, however, show that the official number is 99 prisoners, of which 17 were under warrant and 82 in the act.
