By telephone, a lawyer representing the PM informed that the victory occurred because it was ‘self-defense’
The military policeman Henry Velozo was acquitted, on Friday night (14), in a popular jury held in São Paulo. He was accused of killing, in August 2022, the multi-time jiu-jitsu champion, considered one of the biggest names in the history of the sport in the world. The trial lasted three days. Lo was shot dead during an event in the capital of São Paulo. By telephone, Velozo’s lawyer, Claudio Dalledone, stated that the acquittal occurred because the police officer acted in “self-defense”.
In October, the São Paulo Court had already fully suspended the governor’s decree (Republicans) who had ordered the dismissal of Lieutenant Henrique Velozo. The preliminary decision, signed by judge Ricardo Dip, guaranteed the reinstatement of the military police officer to the corporation’s staff and the reinstatement of payment of his salaries until the case becomes final and unappealable – when there is a definitive decision without the possibility of appeals.
With the injunction, Lieutenant Velozo once again had his functional status recognized, although he remains in custody at the Romão Gomes Military Prison. For lawyer Cláudio Dalledone, the decision reestablishes the legal balance of the case. “From the beginning, we warned that the dismissal represented an early punishment without legal support. No one can be punished before the trial”, he stated.
