The governor (Republicans) signed on Friday (14) the authorization for the implementation of the ITMI (Intelligent Medicine Technological Institute), which will be administered by the USP Faculty of Medicine.

The project, a partnership between the state government, the Ministry of Health and USP, foresees the use of ambulances connected to 5G and telehealth. According to , the expectation is to reduce treatment time in serious cases from up to 17 hours to around two.

The cost of the project is estimated at US$320 million (around R$1.7 billion), to be requested from the NBD (New Development Bank), known as the Brics bank. In addition to this amount, which will be used for construction and purchase of equipment, there will also be resources for monthly costs, in an amount that should reach R$1.24 billion per year — R$1 billion from the state government and R$240 million from the Ministry of Health.

In addition to financing for operation, the government of SP will temporarily transfer the land and integrate the service into the state network. The Union will be responsible for constructing the building and purchasing equipment and the entire technological infrastructure.

“The first smart hospital in the country reinforces our vocation in São Paulo to unite technology, science and efficient management”, says the governor. “The agreement consolidates the state’s leadership in building a more modern SUS that is better prepared to take better care of people.”
