There will be no general strike in Slovakia on November 17, this topic was only political rhetoric. Publicist Juraj Hrabko said this on TASR TV.
According to him, no political party in Slovakia would be able to organize a general strike at this time. “If they had called it something other than a general strike, like a general protest or a national protest, they would have been able to get more out of it,” he noted. “It was just politicking on their part. I think they already know it’s not possible,” he added in the context of the SaS autumn initiative.
He reminded that November 17, as the Day of Struggle for Freedom and Democracy, is a holiday that belongs to all citizens and everyone remembers it in their own way. “I hope he doesn’t forget that it’s also students’ day,” remarked Hrabko.
Deputies of the National Council (NR) of the Slovak Republic for Smer-SD probably they will support the breaking of President Petr Pellegrini’s veto on the amendment of the law on gambling. This is assumed by Prime Minister Robert Fico (Smer-SD). However, he thinks it will be difficult to break the veto. According to him, if the parliament does not break it, it will not cause turbulence in the coalition, because it is not a “vital law”. He stated this on November 8 in the STVR program Saturday Dialogues.
Hrabko responds that in that case there was no need to discuss this law in abbreviated legislative proceedings. “Essentially, this is a message from the prime minister to the deputies that it may end up with the law not being approved,” he stated. “Minister Huliak can immediately propose another law that will define it more clearlywhat municipalities can and cannot do,” added Hrabko. If the draft law was not approved, it would be possible to submit it again in half a year. In this case, however, the proposal was approved, but the president vetoed it.
Slovak Minister of Transport Jozef Ráž (Smeru-SD nominee) dismissed the management of the Slovakian Railway Company (ZSSK) and temporarily entrusted Ivana Piňosová with the management of the company. The Ministry of Transport of the SR informed about it. This is how Ráž reacted to Sunday’s (November 9) railway accident near Pezinok, where dozens of people were injured after two trains collided. “It was the right move as it was the second case in a short time,” stated Hrabko. He added that in this case the minister responded to the Prime Minister’s request.
If the chairman of the Czech ANO movement Andrej Babiš clearly shows that he wants to resolve his conflict of interests in accordance with the law, President Petr Pavel is ready to immediately appoint him as Prime Minister. After their meeting on Wednesday (November 12) at the Prague Castle, Paul’s office announced this.
Hrabko responds that if Andrej Babiš were appointed Prime Minister, he has 30 days to resolve his conflict of interests. According to Hrabek, the fact that the Czech president asks him to inform in advance about the method of solution is already beyond the scope of the constitution. “The president has worse cards than Andrej Babiš. Even the president cannot go against the voters, he will have to appoint a prime minister at some point, answered the question whether the Czech head of state can postpone the appointment of a new government for any length of time.
