Justice Minister Herman Halushchenko and Energy Minister Svitlana Hrynčuková have already resigned because of the scandal.
On Saturday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi announced reorganization and personnel changes in the state energy sector, where a large-scale corruption scandal broke out this week. TASR informs about it according to the AFP agency.
Ukrainian anti-corruption authorities warned this week that members of a criminal organization had built an extensive network to influence strategic state enterprises, including the state-run nuclear company Enerhoatom, and laundered roughly $100 million in bribes. Justice Minister Herman Halushchenko and Energy Minister Svitlana Hrynčuková have already resigned because of the scandal. The main suspect is Zelenský’s former business partner Timur Mindič.
Reorganization of enterprises
“We are starting the reorganization of key state enterprises in the energy sector,” Zelenskyy wrote on the social network X. “Along with a full audit of their financial activities, the management of these companies will also change.”
The Ukrainian president proposed to create within a week the conditions for the appointment of a new supervisory board of Enerhoatom, which operates Ukrainian nuclear power plants, which, according to him, will allow “a complete reorganization of the company’s management.”
Extensive personnel changes
According to Zelensky, the personnel changes will affect all major state energy enterprises in Ukraine, including the oil and gas company Naftohaz or the water management company Ukrhydroenerho.
“I also ordered government officials to maintain continuous and meaningful communication with law enforcement and anti-corruption agencies,” Zelenskyy said. “Full transparency and integrity in the energy sector remain an absolute priority,” he added.
