In October, the company’s first artificial intelligence (AI) browser, which works within ChatGPT. Atlas appears as an assistant to the user’s online experience. In other words, it can summarize, compare and generate texts within any website.
Furthermore, the browser can also save the context of the pages visited to make suggestions or references in future searches. For now, Atlas is only available for Apple Macbooks. However, the company intends to soon make the technology available for Windows systems.
Atlas’ main differentiator is offering personalized navigation. To do this, AI uses data provided by the user and the entire ChatGPT search history, as the browser is linked to the company’s chatbot.

OpenAI claims that Atlas can use browsing data, such as the sites you visit, your clicking behavior and your preferences, to train its AI models. This option, according to the company, is disabled by default to maintain security, but is probably activated when the user grants permissions within the chat for the AI to perform searches.
Agent Mode
This setting, which is only available to ChatGPT subscribers, means that AI can control the computer for the user. In other words, when clicking on Agent Mode, the user can ask the AI to write an email, summarize a news story or even enter a website to make a purchase.
This model works in two ways, with the logged in and logged out version. If the user configures Atlas with the logged in option, the AI can have greater autonomy. In the example of a purchase, she will be able to make the payment without human assistance. In the offline version, which protects the user’s most sensitive data, it is necessary to enter personal information such as email, name and credit card number for the purchase to be finalized.
With Atlas, the user does not need to open a new tab on the computer to access ChatGPT to research an article, for example.
In the new browser, when the user wants to consult ChatGPT for any questions, simply open the chatbot in a tab on the right side. For example, the user can ask the AI to improve the text of an email directly from the message box, without having to open another tab.
Custom searches
Based on the information collected, Atlas can suggest searches or remind the user to complete a certain task. Now, the browser is not just another tool for navigating the internet, but also an assistant.
