Alckmin: we had 23% of Brazilian products with zero tariffs for the USA and now 26%

The vice-president and minister of Development, Industry, Commerce and Services, Geraldo Alckmin, stated this Saturday, 15th, After the announcement, this exemption percentage increased to 26%.

“There are US$40 billion in exports to the United States (2024 figures), of which 42% had a tariff of 0 to 10% and 24% are in section 232, in which we and the world are equal and we only lose competitiveness to companies from the United States. That leaves 33% which are the problem”, explains the minister.

He says that this last part is where the country lost competitiveness to other exporting countries.

Alckmin also stated that the dialogue between President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and Donald Trump, President of the USA, was important for negotiations. He states that the government will continue working to reduce more tariffs and that there is still “an avenue of work ahead”.

For him, the import tariff still in force on Brazilian coffee exported to the USA “makes no sense”.
