Cyclone causes red alert in 4 states

Inmet projects winds above 100 km/h and advance of the system from Sunday to Monday (Nov 17)

The (National Institute of Meteorology) issued a red alert this Saturday (15.Nov.2025) for the formation of an extratropical cyclone near the mouth of the River Plate, arriving in Rio Grande do Sul in the early hours of Sunday (16).

The institute pointed to Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina, Paraná and Mato Grosso do Sul, because of the risk of intense rain, thunderstorms, hail and gusts of wind that can exceed 100 km/h.

An extratropical cyclone is a meeting between masses of hot and cold air that causes strong winds and rain, which can last for several days.

Localized severe phenomena, such as tornadoes and downbursts (fast descending air columns), are not ruled out in the most unstable areas, especially in the south and west of RS, west of PR, SC and south of MS.

After the cyclone passes, temperatures are expected to drop sharply. For Tuesday (18.Nov.2025), there are estimates of frost in the South region and the possibility of cold weather reaching parts of Rondônia and Acre.
