Rydzowy oil, although the name may suggest it, is not made from popular mushrooms, such as saffron mushrooms. It is made from a plant called camelina, which was once an extremely popular crop. The name “rydz” comes from characteristic brown-rust color seeds and oil pressed from them.

In ancient times, this plant was cheap and easy to grow. It grew almost everywhere and that was it This is where the famous saying “It’s better than nothing” comes from. Therefore, camelina oil was often used in rural houses as substitute for animal fataccess to which was extremely difficult.
