El Salvador returned to the center of the regional debate after reaching the mark of more than a thousand days without homicides, according to information released by the country’s authorities and reproduced by local vehicles. In October, official records showed 1,035 consecutive days without murders. A month earlier, Nayib Bukele’s government had already celebrated the 1,000-day milestone.
The numbers, however, cannot be independently verified, as detailed data on crime and arrests are subject to reservation, as highlighted by the CNN network.
Even with methodological divergences and criticism of limited access to statistics, the downward trend in violence is recognized in different surveys. In 2015, El Salvador recorded more than 100 homicides per 100,000 inhabitants. Since the adoption of the exception regime in 2022, Salvadoran authorities began to attribute the reduction in murders to the tightening of security policies and the systematic confrontation of criminal factions.

Bolsonaro’s children meet Bukele
The unprecedented level of security increased the country’s international visibility and became part of political discussions in other nations, including Brazil. Next Monday, senator Flávio Bolsonaro and federal deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro will travel to El Salvador to meet with President Bukele.
The meeting takes place on the eve of the vote on the Antifaction PL in the Chamber of Deputies and in the midst of legislative debates on proposals for tougher penalties. In the official request presented to the Senate, Flávio Bolsonaro states that the visit aims to promote exchanges on public security models, the penitentiary system and criminal legislation.

While maintaining the strategy of repressing organized crime as the central axis of his government, Bukele expanded announcements in the social area. In early November, during a nationally broadcast event, the president stated that 70 new schools were opened simultaneously in various departments across the country. According to him, another 254 units are under construction within the “12 schools per day” program, in addition to structures delivered before the initiative.
The government also updated information about the university scholarship program. Bukele declared that the number of young people benefiting increased from 10,000 to 25,000 and that the goal is to reach all students who complete high school by the beginning of next year. The president also informed that new announcements for the health sector should be presented soon.
