The strongest weapon in Slovak history was the power of nonviolent resistance. We are currently moving away from the November 1989 line. Things get vulgarized. The opposition drew attention to it member of parliament from the KDH club and personality of November 1989 František Mikloško. He spoke about the need for decency. He pointed out that the truth can be described calmly. This follows from his statement in the Sunday discussion show Politika 24 on Joj 24.

“Evil has great power. However, evil also has the power of self-destruction – evil destroys itself. It is important that people are here ready to carry the continuity of decency and democracy, that there are ten righteous people who, when change occurs again, can take the stand,” he declared.

Mikloško spoke about the vulgarization of society and politics. He rejected her. “I don’t want to do such a policy, and such a policy will exhaust itself,” he pointed out. He also drew attention to the erosion of democracy. He thinks that currently Slovakia is also experiencing a governance crisis. According to him, people feel it too. He pointed to the chalk inscriptions in several places in Slovakia as a reference to last week’s incident in front of the Dominika Tatarka Gymnasium in Poprad.

He also drew attention to the fragmentation of the political scene. He assumes that if early elections were held today for the National Council (NR) of the Slovak Republic, there would be no one to form a government. He therefore believes that the opposition would need a leader who would find a consensus between the parties. He reminded that politics is always about a middle ground. He thinks that even the opposition PS and SaS are currently moving more towards the center.

Mikloško declared that the KDH must also maintain that it is a decent party of decent people, otherwise it could drop out of politics and its votes could be taken over by populists. He drew attention to the fact that KDH was strong during his time in that it did not impose its opinion on people. He thinks that conservatism should be based on proven values, but at the same time it should be open to all values that can be verified by time. “Conservatism should not be like some orthodoxy,” he commented.

At the same time, he confirmed that he still remains in the KDH parliamentary club. “Unless they send me from there, I will stay there. (…) Of course, if the movement should move somewhere towards some kind of radicalism, then I will consider it,” he said, adding that the Christian Union represents radicalism for him today.
