What is being voted on this Sunday in Chile
Chileans have been called to the polls again to vote in the presidential and parliamentary elections of 2025. This election puts an end to an extensive electoral calendar that began in 2020, with the plebiscite at the beginning of the first constitutional process. Since then, the South American country has had elections of all types – plebiscites, presidential, parliamentary, constitutional, municipal and regional – throughout the years without interruption.
These presidential elections are the first to be held under the mandatory voting system.
presidential election
In these elections the next President of Chile is elected. The future president could be known tonight, as long as the candidate exceeds 50% of the vote. If none of the applicants achieves that number, the first two majorities will go to a second round, which will take place on December 14.
Parliamentary elections
In parallel with the presidential election, this Sunday Chileans will have to vote to renew the 155 seats in the Chamber of Deputies. In the Senate, the renewal will be partial and there will only be elections for this position in some regions (Arica and Parinacota; Tarapacá; Atacama; Valparaíso; Maule; La Araucanía; and Aysén).
