The crossing between Poland and Belarus will turn green after years. The opening will be accompanied by restrictions

Poland reopens the Bobrowniki and Kužnica border crossings. Belarus welcomes this step, which will support the economy of both countries.

On Sunday, the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomed Poland’s decision to reopen two border crossings, Bobrowniki and Kužnica. Both were closed for several years. The Polish side plans to open them on Monday with some restrictions. TASR informs about it based on the report of the PAP agency.

The Bobrowniki crossing will be accessible to vehicles registered in member states of the European Economic Area. The Kužnica border crossing will be open for passenger traffic except for buses.

“We welcome Poland’s decision to reopen two previously closed border crossings for the movement of people, vehicles and cargo. This move will have a positive impact on local trade and reflects Poland’s constructive approach focused on the needs of its citizens,” said the Belarusian ministry, which also called on its other European neighbors to restore the previous border regime “for the benefit of ordinary people and cross-border cooperation.”

Opening after years

The border crossings with Belarus in Kužnica and Bobrovniky are closed from 2021 and 2023, respectively. Poland closed the Kužnica crossing after hundreds of migrants tried to pass through and threw objects at Polish police officers. The crossing in Bobrovniky was closed after Belarus condemned journalist of Polish origin and minority rights activist Andrzej Poczobut.
