UK will limit protection granted to refugees

The UK will limit the protection given to refugees. The British Government talks about a historic plan to reduce the number of immigrants in the country.

The British Government will reduce the protection granted to refugees, who will be “required to return to their country of origin as soon as it is considered safe”, the Home Office announced in a statement.

This measure is part of a series of reformswhich should be presented and detailed next week by the Government, with the aim of reducing the number of migrants arriving in the United Kingdom.

Currently, refugee status in the United Kingdom lasts five years, after which these people can apply for permanent residence authorization and have an open path to trying to obtain citizenship.

Some British newspapers had already reported that the Minister of the Interior, Shabana Mahmood, was going to announce this measure, inspired by the Danish migration system.

London will also eliminate automatic access to social benefits for asylum seekersas part of the reform aimed at combating irregular immigration, announced the Ministry of the Interior.

“As part of a historic plan, automatic aid granted to people seeking asylum will come to an end”, reads the Ministry’s statement.

Minister Shabana Mahmood is expected to detail her plan on Monday, presenting it to parliament, a plan that aims to make the United Kingdom a less attractive destination for undocumented migrants, as well as facilitating their deportation.
