Video: Maduro sings “Imagine”, by John Lennon, in an appeal for peace in the USA

The leader of Venezuela, Nicolas Maduromade a new appeal for peace to the USA this Saturday (15), by singing the song Imagineof John Lennonin front of a rally in Venezuela.

During an event with his supporters in Miranda, where he swore in the Bolivarian base committees, he said:

“Peace, peace, peace. Do everything for peace. As John Lennon used to say. Alfred Nazareth (Minister of Communications of Venezuela), what was John Lennon’s music like? Imagine all the people.”

While the music Imagine was played over the loudspeakers, the Venezuelan leader sang and applauded along with his followers, while government officials on stage made the peace sign with their hands.

The song of John Lennonwho founded the Beatles, and Yoko Ono which calls for peace in the world became famous in the 70s and has already been interpreted by artists from all over the world.

The song idealizes a pacifist scenario capable of establishing peace between people. “Imagine that there are no countries. It’s not hard to imagine nothing to kill or die for”, says an excerpt.

“Imagine that there is no paradise. It’s easy if you try. Imagine having no possessions, Will you be able to do it? No need for greed or hunger, a brotherhood among men. Imagine all the people sharing the whole world.”

The new appeal comes amid tensions between and due to the increased military presence of the United States in the Caribbean.

At the same event, Maduro once again criticized the American mobilization, especially after Trinidad and Tobago, a neighboring country, announced joint military exercises with the USA starting this Sunday (16).

While the Trump administration claims that the operations aim to attack drug traffickers in the region, Maduro maintains that they represent a secret attempt to overthrow his regime.
