All you need are a few ingredients, 10 minutes of free time and a bit of willingness. Anyone can make jam using this recipe to use now or store in a jar.

Traditional jams are usually famous for containing a lot of sugar, which is responsible for, among other things, the density and durability of the preserves. The situation is different in this case products prepared from chia seeds, which act as a natural thickener. Meaning that such jam is completely free of refined sugar.

Just boil the chia seeds properly the preserves have gained the right consistency and unique taste. However, this is not the end, because this alternative to sweet jams has many health benefits. Chia seeds are characterized by: high content of valuable fats, including omega-3 acids, also numerous vitamins and minerals.

Combined with the health power contained in individual fruits, you can create healthy and tasty preserves at any time of the year. Not too sweet, they will work well as a complement to many desserts, such as waffles or pancakes. It can be prepared most quickly from fruits such as raspberries, strawberries, cherries or blueberries (also in frozen form), but they will also work for this purpose fruits containing a lot of pectin, i.e. pears, plums, peaches and even bananas.

  • 4 tablespoons of chia seeds
  • 4 cups of fruit (e.g. frozen raspberries)
  • A few drops of lemon juice
  • Additives: cinnamon stick, anise, cardamom

Preparation method:

Heat the fruit in a thick-bottomed pot until it falls apart. Crush them (e.g. with a pestle) depending on your preferences, finely or leaving larger pieces of fruit. Then add the chia seeds and mix everything thoroughly. The chia seeds will begin to swell.

Place the resulting jam into dry and sterilized jars. Use the jam on an ongoing basis by storing it in the refrigerator for a few days or pasteurizing it and storing it in a dry place.
