Therefore, based on this classification and according to the Brazilian Society of Dermatology, such products, when not autologous, cannot be applied in injectable therapies, regardless of the technique, indication, technical competence of the prescriber or the quality of the product.
In dermatology, autologous exosomes are used in the treatment of androgenetic alopecia, acne scars, melasma and facial rejuvenation. They stimulate collagen production, as well as improving skin texture and promoting hair growth.
Opinion of those who understand the subject
For dermatologist Ana Carolina Sumam, exosome therapy is recent and, despite favorable evidence of its effectiveness, it is necessary to monitor its evolution and studies on the treatment.
“The results are especially notable in the treatment of improving skin quality and treating hair loss. However, studies related to this equipment are constantly being updated. Therefore, it is necessary to be cautious and link its use in accordance with the recommendations of authority bodies”, he stated.
Although recent in Brazil, the use of autologous exosomes is not new in places such as Asia, Europe and the United States. Local researchers have previously explored these structures especially in centers dedicated to regenerative biotechnology.
More treatment details
The treatment stands out for its biocompatibility. Because they are derived from the body itself, autologous exosomes pose minimal risk of allergic reactions or rejection. Furthermore, they stimulate angiogenesis, cell proliferation and extracellular matrix synthesis.
Despite this, like other treatments, autologous exosomes are not miraculous. For Ana Carolina Sumam, this mistaken perception can generate unrealistic expectations in patients: “Exosomes have specific indications and limitations that must be respected. Each case needs to be evaluated individually to determine whether the patient is a candidate for treatment”, she explained.
Among the contraindications, individuals with active infections, severe skin conditions or allergies to specific components should avoid treatment: “It is very important that the patient who falls within these restrictions respects the recommendations. Furthermore, it is advisable to always discuss the medical history with the professional before starting treatment”, concluded the specialist.
