The Minister of Education, alongside the president of the National Institute of Educational Studies and Research Anísio Teixeira (Inep), Manuel Palacios, announced, this Sunday (16), that the from 2026, will be used to assess the quality of secondary education in the country, in addition to recognizing individual trajectories for selection and certification purposes. The novelty will be implemented in cooperation between Inep and state education networks, with the aim of providing a diagnosis of Brazilian basic education.

According to the minister, the carried out all studies and defined the standards necessary for implementation. “The motivation of the 3rd year high school student is to take the Enem. With this change, we will be able to evaluate high school learning with more quality. The idea is that the Enem test will be the high school assessment test from 2026 onwards”, he explained. Another novelty announced are the feasibility studies to apply Enem in countries around the world. also next year. “The test, in Portuguese, would be administered in Buenos Aires (Argentina), Montevideo (Uruguay) and Asunción (Paraguay), expanding the scope of the exam.” According to the minister, the study will be completed and presented before registration for the next edition of the exam opens.

Enem continues as a selection mechanism for access to higher education, through the following programs of the Ministry of Education (MEC): Unified Selection System (Sisu), University for All Program () and Student Financing Fund (Fies); and for high school completion certification. The announcement was made during a press conference to review Enem 2025, in Brasília (DF).

Throughout 2025, Inep prepared a proposal for learning and performance standards for secondary education, which will be presented for adoption by education networks.

“We will work in 2026 to produce an assessment of the completion of basic education and Enem. This will certainly take the measurement of the quality of our basic education to another level, as we will have students who are more motivated to participate in this assessment, in addition to a test that covers all the skills and knowledge provided for in the National Common Curricular Base, with much higher quality”, highlighted Palacios.
