First case of bird flu in small-scale farming in Burgenland

Vienna – On Monday, the pathogen HPAI H5N1 was detected in kept birds for the first time in 2025 in a small farm in the Neusiedl am See district (Burgenland). The Federal Ministry of Labor, Social Affairs, Health, Care and Consumer Protection (BMASGPK) announced this in a press release. 170 animals were affected, such as chickens, ducks, geese and turkeys. After several dead animals were found, the veterinary office was informed, and the Agency for Health and Food Safety (AGES) confirmed the suspicion.
