Lula government faces fiscal challenge with pride, says Renan Filho

The Minister of Transport, Renan Filho, said this Sunday, the 16th, that on a scale that measures being more or less austere in fiscal policy, he is close to what his colleague from Finance, Fernando Haddad, thinks in relation to the government average. “I have a closer view, if we are going to put the government on a ruler, with the thinking of Minister Fernando Haddad”, he stated during his participation in the Band program Canal Livre.

For Renan Filho, President Lula’s government has been facing the fiscal challenge with pride. “Obviously not in the way the capital market would like, which is not that simple”, he said.

After criticizing the Bolsonaro government’s actions in the area, the minister said that the current administration made important structural reforms, such as offering a new fiscal framework. “It can be improved, it certainly can, but there was a tax reform, an income tax reform that is now very relevant. These reforms were very important, but from a fiscal point of view, I defend fiscal balance.”

Sustainability

Regarding sustainability, Renan Filho said that Brazil is a great example in the use of biofuels and that the country sets an example for the world.

He also defended that Brazil moves towards the electric mobility model, but without abandoning the gains from ethanol. “We have a clean energy matrix, we have biofuels, we are also making a transition to electric, not as fast as the rich, because their people can buy electric cars more than ours. Just for that reason.”

Regarding oil exploration in the Equatorial Margin, the minister said he was in favor of studying there. “If there is little oil, leave it there. Now, if there is a lot of oil, can a country like Brazil give up wealth of this nature?”, he asked.
