Even if the Brigittenau trauma center goes back into full operation, there will no longer be any provision for shock room or polytrauma care for the most seriously injured. The General Accident Insurance Institute (AUVA) announced this a week and a half ago. The Vienna Medical Association considers this “downgrading” to be “more than questionable”. City Councilor for Health Peter Hacker (SPÖ) said it was “unacceptable” that the city was not involved in the AUVA’s planning. The AUVA doesn’t have to do that. She says she still regularly sought conversation.
