The Russian attack in the Odesa region damaged the port and infrastructure. Millions of households face power outages and the supply of basic services is disrupted.
A Russian attack in southern Ukraine’s Odesa region caused fires in a port and energy infrastructure, Ukrainian emergency services said Monday. TASR informs about it according to a Reuters report.
The attack damaged port facilities and several civilian ships moored at the pier, Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister for Reconstruction Oleksii Kuleba wrote on the Telegram platform. “One of the ports has power outages and specialists are already working to restore the electricity supply,” he said, adding that there were no casualties in the attack.
Energy crisis
The Ukrainian energy company DTEK reports that 36,500 households were left without electricity after the attack in the Odesa region. Around 32,500 households were still without electricity in the morning local time. DTEK reports extensive damage to its facilities after nighttime Russian attacks.
Kuleba also reported that as a result of attacks on critical infrastructure in the Donetsk region, approximately 30,000 customers were left without water supply and another 20,000 without heat.
Intensified attacks
On Monday night, Russia also attacked in the east of Ukraine. The head of the military administration of the Kharkiv region, Vitaly Karabanov, said that at least three people were killed and ten others, including three teenagers, were injured in the attack on residential buildings in the central part of the city of Balakliya.
Russian forces have been attacking Ukrainian territory almost daily for more than three and a half years, intensifying attacks on energy infrastructure as winter approaches. Ukraine responds with attacks on warehouses, oil refineries and other targets in Russia.
