This Sunday, the Government of the United States congratulated the Government of Ecuador for the capture in Spain of Wilmer Chavarría ‘Pipo’, top leader of the Los Lobos criminal gang, currently the largest and most powerful in Ecuador. The arrest was carried out by the Spanish National Policein coordination with their Ecuadorian peers.
“Congratulations to the Government of Ecuador for the capture of ‘Pipo’, one of the most notorious organized crime bosses in Latin America“, wrote the United States Undersecretary of State, Christopher Landau, on the social network without mentioning the Spanish Police.
He added that “if governments do not fight crime, it is because they are ACCOMPLICES; tolerating crime is a DECISION, not a DESTINY“. “Big hug to our Ecuadorian friends for this great feat and all my respect!” he added.
Arrested in Malaga
Chavarría, detained in Málaga (Spain), was the last great leader of Ecuador’s criminal scheme who remained to be capturedafter having previously fallen the heads of Los Choneros, Los Tiguerones and the Chone Killers, with captures also in Spain, Panama and Colombia.
Through a message on social networks, the President of Ecuador, Daniel Noboa, indicated that ‘Pipo’ was captured in a joint operation between the police of Ecuador and Spain.
“Today we captured ‘Pipo’ Chavarría, the most wanted criminal in the region and top leader of Los Lobos. “The criminal who faked his death changed his identity and hid in Europe while ordering murders in Ecuador, controlling illegal mining operations and moving drug routes alongside the (Mexican) Jalisco Nueva Generación cartel,” Noboa said.
According to the Ecuadorian Minister of the Interior, John Reimberg, who is currently in Spain, “Chavarría is responsible for at least 400 deaths“.
