A mason jar, mug or cup will turn into a perfect gift. The scents you create yourself are unmistakable

Smells, warms, looks beautiful. It is all the more charming that you can create the candle with love and easily adapt it to the person for whom it is intended.

You will enjoy making original candles

It is not only very easy, but also the result of which will be a unique gift.

Making a candle that is truly unique is not difficult. Because you can easily mix color or fragrance into the wax, and the choice of container is also up to you.

You can pour the candle into a mug, tin, jar, porcelain vase or even into a recycled can. All you need is a little imagination, a few things from nature and a moment of preparation.

You will need:

  • but 200 g wax (e.g. soy or bee) per candle in a 250 ml mug,
  • knot (ideally cotton or wooden),
  • container for a candle
  • a container for melting the wax,
  • a larger water bath pot,
  • a skewer or a spoon.

Melt the wax in a water bath, ideally in a stainless steel or glass bowl. When liquid, add fragrance oil. Regarding the amount of fragrance, it is recommended to use 5 to a maximum of 10% of the total amount of wax (ie about 10-20g of fragrance per 200g of wax), but there is no need to overdo it. Add color as desired, a small amount is enough.

Attach the wick to the bottom of the container. This is done by dabbing the end with a small amount of wax on the bottom. Wrap the other end of the wick around a skewer or spoon and place it over the container so that the wick is nicely stretched roughly in the middle. Then slowly pour the wax and leave it set preferably overnight. Finally, shorten the wick to a length of about 0.5 cm.

How to choose a wick and wax?

The correct size of the wick determines whether the candle will burn evenly and without soot.

Do classic mug one ordinary wick is enough. To wider containers (e.g. a bowl with a diameter of 20 cm) use two to three wicksso that the wax melts over the entire surface and does not just form a hole around the wick. Alternatively, you can choose a stronger wick, which creates a larger flame and therefore more heat.

Each wax has different properties. What should you know?

Soy wax it is plant-based, organic and easy to work with. It fits in jars and holds the aroma well.

Beeswax it has a natural honey smell, is soft and yellow. Burns longer and cleaner than most other waxes. You can find products made from this wax at Christmas markets as well.

Coconut wax it is smooth, soft and releases an excellent fragrance, often mixed with soy wax.

Paraffin it is the most common and cheap, holds colors and perfumes well, but it comes from petroleum, so it is definitely not an ecological choice.

It is most suitable for beginners soy wax. It melts easily (at 55-65 °C), binds fragrance well and is cheap and available. Beeswax requires a higher temperature (around 70-80°C) followed by slower solidification.

And now the most fun part, i.e. how to make each of the candles original and just the right one to suit the recipient.

Start by choosing a container. Candles can be poured into mugs, ceramic bowls, mason jars or even old yogurt glasses. You can use solitaires, which can be found in every home and are therefore often unused, recycle or buy a nice container.

Each candle may look different. You can paste in the top layer dried flowers, cinnamon, dried orange slices or a sprig of rosemary. But also remember that they don’t start burning together with the wick. Match the color and scent to your mood.

Lavender and sage create a calm atmosphere, while vanilla, cinnamon or orange have a warming effect and refresh the home.
