SÃO PAULO (Reuters) – Americanas () and Magazine Luiza () announced this Tuesday a strategic partnership in e-commerce, which begins with the first selling products on the second’s digital platform, reinforcing competition against groups such as Mercado Livre and Shopee.
After starting a partnership with the Chinese Aliexpress in the middle of last year, Magazine Luiza stated that starting this Tuesday it will make products sold by Americanas available on its marketplace and that it should do the same on the Americanas platform in the coming weeks.
‘The partnership combines a complementary and synergistic mix of products’, the companies stated in a press release. In the midst of a judicial recovery process, Americanas changed its focus and began to dedicate itself to lower price categories, such as candy, food, cleaning, personal hygiene and housewares.
Meanwhile, Magazine Luiza claims to ‘lead the market in white goods, audio and video, telephony, mobile and portable’.
At the moment, products from 50 Americanas physical stores, located in 15 Brazilian capitals, will be available for sale on the Magazine Luiza digital platform. Meanwhile, Magazine Luiza will start offering its own products on the Americanas website.
‘The project will begin with a pilot group of physical stores, but the expectation is for rapid expansion’, stated the companies.
Continues after advertising
According to the companies, by December, the objective of the partnership is to integrate all Americanas stores with delivery services from physical points of sale.
