Boavista fans want the club to be recognized as Municipal Intangible Heritage

After 11 consecutive seasons in the elite of Portuguese football, the club and SAD followed different paths, a decision that led to the emergence of a third emblem dedicated to the ‘chess players’. Boavista FC will not compete this season, a decision that fans hope to see changed in the future with the help of the local authority.

Boavista Futebol Clube fans, emblemto which, about two weeks ago, withdrew from competing in the last level of the OF Portocreated a public petition with the intention that the municipality, now led by Pedro Duarte, recognize the club as Intangible Heritage of Municipal Interest.

The document, which since November 13th, explains that fans took this decisiono “due to the historical, social and cultural role in the city of Porto since 1903” of the checkered club.

The group of supporters of the history that seeks to rebuild itself also requests the City Council of ‘Cidade Invicta’ to:

  • “Guarantee legal protection of the name, symbols and cultural values ​​of Boavista FC, ensuring that they cannot be used or changed without express authorization from the associative club and the Chamber;
  • Promote the preservation of the Bessa Stadium and other physical assets of the club as assets of cultural and sporting interest, ensuring their use for the benefit of the community;
  • Institutionally monitor the SAD Boavista FC process, protecting the heritage and identity of the associative club, guaranteeing the future of Boavista as a cultural and sporting institution in Porto;
  • Consider creating financial and logistical support for Boavista Clube, reinforcing its sustainability as a cultural and sporting association.”

Three Boavistas?

On October 31, the of the last level of district football, following a request made to the organization, whose Disciplinary Council had opened a case against the club on October 21, which was at risk of being disqualified, after having failed two matches and saw another one canceled.

On the other hand, Boavista SAD, which belongs to Sociedade Anónima Desportiva, continues to compete in the first district division of AF Porto, having won, on Sunday, the first match of the season, against Lousada.

The triumph was not enough to boost the ‘chess players’ in the league table, which remainthus, in last place with five points.

Parallel to this whole case, a group of disgruntled Boavista FC fans, led by the president of the Panteras Negras cheerleading squad, which, according to the founders, aims to “serve Boavista”, not presenting itself as a competing club.

The Black Panthers Footballers Club competes in the fourth and final division of AF Portooccupying eighth place, out of a total of 12 teams, with nine points.
