Vienna – The high part-time rate is always a big issue in Austria. With a rate of 31.5 percent, Austria takes second place in the EU (after the Netherlands) in the part-time ranking. The proportion of women who work part-time is significantly higher (approx. 51 percent) than men (approx. 13.7 percent). This has different reasons. Women are more likely to do unpaid care work within a family because they already earn less than their partner. Many women who would like to work full-time are not given the chance by their employer.
