Striker Karim Adeyemi, from Borussia Dortmund and the Germany national team, received a fine of 450,000 euros (around R$2.77 million) after being convicted of illegal possession of weapons.
The decision, revealed by German newspaper Bild, confirms that the player kept electrical equipment such as a taser and brass knuckles, items prohibited in the country.
The investigation began more than a year ago, when local police found the objects during an investigation conducted in the city of Hagen. The court order came into force on October 30 and, according to the prosecutor’s office, the fine was calculated based on the athlete’s income. The amount will be divided into 60 installments of 7,500 euros.
Despite avoiding a prison sentence, Adeyemi will have the case recorded on his criminal record. Even without repeat offenses, the punishment exceeds the legal limit that would exempt registration.
The player did not comment on the episode. Businessman Jorge Mendes told the newspaper that the objects had reached the athlete inside a “mysterious box”, without detailing their origin.
