The minister of the (Supreme Federal Court) postponed for at least 15 days the trial of the action against the governor of Gladson Cameli (PP), which would take place this Wednesday (19).
He is a defendant on charges of committing crimes and criminal organization.
The trial would take place in the Special Court of the (Superior Court of Justice), a body made up of the 15 most senior ministers.
In his decision, Gilmar determined that ) and a present the forms used to obtain financial intelligence reports that supported the investigation against Cameli.
The governor’s defense told the Supreme Court that he requested the information, but it was not delivered. They said the absence of data hampers the defense exercise.
In the decision involving the action against Cameli, Gilmar stated that the STF’s thesis conditions the sharing of these reports to the use of formal communication instruments.
He said that the absence of these forms in the criminal case files compromises the defense’s role in verifying the origin of the report request, its recipients and its purpose.
The minister decided to postpone the criminal action against Cameli at the STJ for at least 15 days or until the forms are added to the case file, reopening the deadline for the parties to express their views on the documents.
When contacted, Cameli’s defense did not speak out.
Cameli has been a defendant since last year. He was charged by the Attorney General’s Office.
Despite accepting the complaint, the STJ denied removing the governor from office. The rapporteur of the process is Minister Nancy Andrighi.
According to the Prosecutor’s Office, the alleged irregularities related to the governor caused losses of almost R$11.7 million to public coffers.
The records indicate that the company Murano Construções was fraudulently hired, which allegedly received R$18 million to carry out road and building works.
Technical analyzes indicated that there would have been an overpricing of R$8.8 million, in addition to an overbilling of R$2.9 million in contracted services.
Upon becoming a defendant, Cameli said he received the STJ’s decision with serenity. “It is important to highlight that the court did justice by denying the request for removal from the mandate that the people of Acre gave me in a legitimate and democratic way”, stated the governor at the time.
“We understand that in this new procedural phase, the defense will have the peace of mind and space necessary to clarify doubts and restore the truth. The decision will give me the opportunity to defend myself in court.”
