The management (PSB-ES) sent a letter expressing concern about the insufficiency of current standards and the practical difficulties in inspecting and other self-propelled equipment.
The government of Espírito Santo reports increasing use of these means of transport and also a significant increase in accidents.
“Although they represent sustainable mobility alternatives, they have been used irregularly, in violation of the Brazilian Traffic Code and resolutions of the National Traffic Council, including by minors”, says the letter.
The text also mentions two recent cases involving electric bicycles in Espírito Santo: an 82-year-old woman who died after being run over and a 14-year-old teenager who suffered head trauma after hitting a wall.
The Espírito Santo government therefore asks that Renan Filho’s ministry provide and establish clear rules regarding the classification, registration, licensing and circulation conditions of these vehicles and define effective mechanisms for monitoring and penalizing irregular conduct.
