Ibaneis government has an end-of-term climate, members say – 11/18/2025 – Panel

Members of the administration (), governor of , state that the internal climate is at the end of the mandate.

The assessment, expressed in exchanges of messages between people at the top of the emedebista management this Tuesday (18), is related to the operation that led to (Banco de Brasília), Paulo Henrique Costa, and the arrest of the owner of the bank, Daniel Vorcaro.

The reading of Ibaneis’ allies is that he was more involved than he should have been in the negotiations to purchase the Master by BRB and, therefore, is now reaping the losses in a proportional manner. According to them, the most prudent thing would have been to let the institutions’ boards handle the negotiations, without public involvement from the DF governor.

In interviews with journalists, Ibaneis addressed the issue on several occasions, pushing for the deal to go through. In September, when he decided to block the purchase, Ibaneis stated that PT and PSB, parties opposing his management, had acted to harm the DF.

The argument repeated repeatedly by Ibaneis to promote the deal was that BRB would gain national recognition with the acquisition.

Ibaneis intends to be a candidate for the Senate in 2026, and wants Celina Leão (PP), his vice-president, to be his candidate for succession. This project, however, will now have to take into account the image damage related to the Federal Police operation.
