The indicators are from October and reveal that the number of insolvent companies registered an increase of 13% compared to the same month in 2024. Alentejo contradicted this record with a decrease in the number of insolvencies.

Even so, the latest indicators for October show a 13% increase in businesses in bankruptcy compared to October 2024, led by the telecommunications, agriculture, fishing and hunting and transport sectors.
With the country in a phase of almost full employment, it will still be too early to understand the meaning of this worsening of insolvencies, most pronounced in three districts of the country. Bragança, Viana do Castelo and Leiria recorded increases of more than 20%.
Conversely, Alentejo and the autonomous regions stood out in the stability of the business market. Évora and Beja had the biggest reductions in the number of bankruptcies. The creation of new companies slowed down in October, despite the annual balance remaining positive.
Unsurprisingly, the largest number of new businesses were created in Lisbon and Porto. Altogether there were more than 20 thousand. Évora also stood out with an increase of 11% compared to the previous year.
This statistic does not mention the number of jobs extinct or created by the business sector.
