Justin Trudeau's ex-wife Sophie Grégoire breaks silence on his romance with Katy Perry

“I let myself be disappointed with someone, I let myself be angry, I become sad”

Sophie Grégoire has opened up about her life in public as the ex-wife of former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

During a recent appearance on the “Arlene is Alone” podcast, the topic of the notoriety Trudeau is gaining from dating singer Katy Perry came up when host Arlene Dickinson noted that she admires the way the 50-year-old remains “calm” about it all.

“We are human beings and things affect us. It’s normal,” says Grégoire. “How we react to things is our decision. So I choose to try to listen to the music instead of the noise.”

Grégoire and Trudeau announced that they would separate in August 2023. They married in 2005 and are parents to three children – Xavier, Ella-Grace and Hadrien.

Trudeau and Perry were photographed by a passerby in an apparent embrace in September, but appeared to go public with their romance after being seen holding hands at the Crazy Horse cabaret in Paris around Perry’s birthday in October.

Grégoire adds that he is “very aware that a lot of public things can be triggering.”

“What I do with this is my decision. The woman I want to become through this is my decision.”

Not that she’s against feeling all the feelings.

“I let myself become disappointed in someone, I let myself become angry, I become sad,” says Grégoire. “And I really know how important it is, as a mental health advocate, to feel those emotions.”

At the beginning of the podcast, Grégoire corrected Dickinson when she referred to her as a “single mother.”

“I’m definitely not a single mother,” Grégoire stressed. “I have a partnership with a father who has a deep love and availability for his children.”
