Lula responds to Merz and says that the prime minister should have gone to a bar in Pará

The President of the Republic, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, responded to the Prime Minister of Germany, Friedrich Merz, this Tuesday, 18, that

He said that Merz “should have gone to a bar in Pará”, danced and tried the local cuisine.

“The Prime Minister of Germany complained these days: ‘I went to Pará and came back straight away because I really like Berlin’. He, in fact, should have gone to a bar in Pará. He should have danced in Pará. He should have tried the cuisine of Pará. He would realize that Berlin doesn’t offer him 10% of the quality that the State of Pará and the city of Belém offer. I said all the time: ‘Eat the maniçoba, man'” he said Lula.

The response, made in a humorous tone, was made during the inauguration of a bridge that connects the municipalities of Xambioá (TO) to São Geraldo do Araguaia (PA). Lula avoided harsher or more serious criticism, as other politicians have done so far.

The president, however, criticized those who did not like the choice of Belém to host COP30. He said that “there were a lot of people who didn’t want it” and that they criticized a series of problems, such as the high prices for accommodation and food and drinks.

“These people never complained about the water they pay for when they go to the international airport, they never complained about the price of water and guaraná when they go to a show. But they went to complain about Pará. And COP30 will be in Pará for those who like it and for those who don’t”, declared the president of Brazil.

Lula confirmed that he will go to Belém again this Wednesday, the 19th, to “make the agreements we need to make” in the final stretch of COP30.
