According to the company’s ‘trading update’, turnover in this period reached 4,090 million euros, a drop of 1.4% compared to the same period of the previous year. EBITDA (earnings before taxes, interest, depreciation and amortization) increased by 15%, to 699 million euros.

“In terms of the performance of the various business areas, it is worth highlighting the 57% growth in turnover in Africa to 1,616 million euros, with an EBITDA that grew 62% to 405 million euros (margin of 25%), driven by the doubling of activity in the Industrial Engineering segment and which currently places Mota-Engil as the largest Contract Mining operator across the entire African continent”, highlighted the group.

According to Mota-Engil, in Europe, the company’s performance registered “a decrease motivated exclusively by the sale of Poland in the 3rd quarter of 2024 (a market that contributed 123 million euros in turnover in September 2024), and, removing this effect, there would be “a maintenance of activity levels in Portugal compared to the same period”.

On the other hand, in Latin Americaa, “a region in which Mexico is the largest foreign market, the group achieved a turnover of 1,561 million euros, which translates into a decrease of 29% as expected this year“.

Mota-Engil highlighted the increase in the order book for “a record level of 15.7 billion euros (one billion euros more than in June), with Angola (19%), Mexico (17%), Portugal (12%) and Nigeria (11%) representing the markets with the highest volume of Engineering and Construction projects”.

The company highlighted that the order book does not include recently awarded projects. These projects include, in Brazil, the concession of the Santos-Guarujá tunnel (1,255 million euros), work on the Duque de Caxias refinery (700 million euros, with Mota-Engil having a 33% stake) and the extension of the submarine warehouse contract (35 million euros).

In Mexico, the group won 1,020 million euros in infrastructure, including the second section of the Querétaro-Irapuato line in Mexico (820 million euros). For 2025, the group estimates that the turnover will be “impacted by an adjustment”hoping that “recover fully in 2026″, reflecting “the temporal effects of awards and the start of crucial projects in Portugal and Mexico, while other ‘core’ operations continue to present a solid and resilient performance”.

Still waiting for “consolidation of the EBITDA margin at 17%” ea “maintaining disciplined capital allocation, with investment amounting to approximately 7% of turnover”.
