NBA: predictions and predictions for this Tuesday (11/18)

  • Jimmy Butler over 5.5 assist
  • Franz Wagner over 22.5 points

Jimmy Butler over 5.5 assist

Butler’s role as Golden State’s second point guard has been the big story of his time with the Warriors, and Jonathan Kuminga’s absence only adds to that responsibility. In the last five games, Butler has averaged 5.6 assists and an assist/error ratio of 3.11, showing an evolution in his game vision and decision-making.

The context of the match favors this scenario even more. Kuminga’s 27.7 minutes per game and 16.2% usage rate need to be redistributed, and Butler’s veteran leadership makes him the natural candidate to absorb much of that volume. Against an Orlando defense that can struggle with turnovers due to its own injury issues, Butler’s ability to find teammates cutting to the basket and open shooters tends to come to the fore.

Butler recorded 6+ assists in three of the last four games, with the only exception coming in a rout in which he played little in the final quarter. In competitive matches, when his playmaking is essential, he consistently overcomes this line. The heavy “juice” on the over (-158) reflects strong market action, but the usage numbers support this price.

Franz Wagner over 22.5 points

Projection: With Paolo Banchero officially out, Wagner is no longer the second scorer to assume the role of Orlando’s main offensive reference. His season average of 23.1 points, with a usage rate of 25.7%, was built by sharing possessions with Banchero — who has 27.8% usage and whose load now falls directly on Wagner.

The matchup also plays into its favor. Golden State has allowed 119.2 points per game on the road this season, ranking in the bottom third of the league in defensive performance away from Chase Center. Wagner has surpassed the 22.5-point mark in four of the last six games, including a 28-point performance against Miami when he had an expanded offensive role.

The most relevant factor is his three-level arsenal: Wagner converts 35.71% of three-pointers and 84.2% from the free throw line, which gives him multiple ways to score against a Warriors defense that struggles to deal with versatile wings. With a projection of 18 to 20 pitches in this new context, the volume should be more than enough to exceed this total.
