President of the CPMI of the INSS requests a six-month suspension of payroll deductions

The president of the INSS CPMI, senator Carlos Viana (Podemos-MG), wants the six-month suspension of collections on INSS payroll loan operations to be evaluated. The senator said this Monday, the 17th, that he will forward to the competent bodies, such as the Central Bank, the Federal Police, the Federal Public Ministry and the INSS, all the preliminary information that the CPMI has already identified about irregularities.

“Retired paying for a loan he didn’t take out. Account opened without authorization. Compulsory advance. Destroyed income. That’s why I recommend that the temporary suspension of 180 days on payroll loans be evaluated. During these 180 days, banks will not be able to deduct any portion of the benefit. It’s protection, not a privilege”, wrote Viana in a post on the social network X.

In another social media post, Viana said that the 180-day pause request is a “protective measure”.

“It’s just an emergency pause to protect those who are being harmed by fraud. It’s a protective measure, not punishment. It’s justice for those who have worked their entire lives. And CPMI will remain firm until all these irregularities are corrected,” he said.

As shown by the Estadão In September, the INSS CPMI rapporteur, deputy Alfredo Gaspar (União-AL), stated that he intends to investigate suspicions related to payroll loans offered by banks.

According to him, fraud with payroll loans could reach R$70 billion, if the amount of unauthorized memberships made by retiree associations was replicated by banks. The value is ten times greater than the gap mapped so far with the associations, between 2016 and 2025.

Both Gaspar and Viana intend to focus on consignment in the next phase of CPMI, which will begin next year.
